THE B2 RULEBOOK · EXACT AND COMPLETE

B2 Breakout, rule by rule.

This is the whole strategy — the same rules the paper sims run and the backtest was tested with (adopted Oct 28, 2026, from the backtest study: the only configuration of twelve that survived with both halves positive). If a trade does not come from these rules, it is not a B2 trade. Source: the gold prop sim ledger.

The rules

  1. Instrument: Gold — XAU/USD (GC=F data) only. One position at a time, ever.
  2. Direction filter: compare the last completed daily close with its 50-day simple moving average. Close above the average → longs only. Close below → shorts only. No counter-trend trades.
  3. Trigger: an hourly candle closes beyond the prior completed UTC day's range — above its high for a long, below its low for a short. A wick through the level is not a trigger; the candle must close beyond it.
  4. Entry: at the next hourly open after the trigger candle closes. Never retroactively, never mid-candle.
  5. Stop: 1 × ATR(14) on hourly candles, measured at the trigger candle, placed from the entry price (long: entry − ATR; short: entry + ATR).
  6. Target: exactly 3 × the stop distance from entry. The maths of the strategy lives here: a ~29% win rate is enough at 3-to-1.
  7. Both touched in one candle: the stop counts first. Always. No benefit of the doubt.
  8. Size: risk 0.3–0.4% of the current balance at the stop — ounces = floor(0.003–0.004 × balance ÷ stop distance), minimum 1 oz. Size follows the balance, so it compounds on the way up and shrinks on the way down. This size was adopted Oct 31, 2026; the backtests were run at 0.5%, which the 5-year evidence showed breaches Hola's floor on a live-equity basis.
  9. Re-entry wait: after a position closes, wait at least 10 minutes before entering again in the same direction. This is a Hola funded-stage rule, not a preference: trades opened within 10 minutes of each other in the same direction are counted as one trade, and that combined trade's risk is capped at 2%. B2's hourly cadence makes the wait easy to keep — but it is a rule, not a side effect.
  10. Costs: $0.35 per ounce spread charged on every trade, in the sims, the backtest and the models alike.
  11. News blackout: no fresh entries from 2 hours before to 1 hour after a major US release — FOMC decisions and minutes, CPI, PCE, NFP. Position management (stops and targets) always runs; only entries pause.
  12. Evaluation: signals are evaluated hourly. Between hours, nothing happens — no discretionary trades, no moving stops, no early exits.

Execution integrity — the rules about the rules

These are not trading rules. They are the conditions that keep payouts safe — for Jay's own account, and for anyone who ever runs these rules on an account of their own.

Your accounts only

Every owner trades only their own accounts

Each person trades the accounts in their own name, from this rulebook, with their own entries and their own judgement about their own money.

Prop firms require the account holder to be the trader. Nobody trades, manages, or logs into anyone else's account — ever.

No copying

No mirroring anyone's live entries

Nobody copies another person's live trades — not the same second, not ten seconds later, not by bot, not by hand.

Firms ban copy trading and group trading, and they scan for clustered identical entries across accounts. Similar trades are expected — everyone runs the same mechanical rules on the same public price data — but each entry must be the owner's own, made from the rules. The playbook travels; live entries don't.

Weekends

Weekend holding only where the plan allows it

B2 positions hold over weekends by design — a 3× target takes days, not hours. That is only permitted where the firm's plan allows weekend holding.

FTMO is bought as the Swing variant for exactly this reason — the Standard funded account bans weekend holding. Hola 2-Step Prime, FundedNext Stellar, CTI and The5ers all allow weekend holding on the plans in this stack (see Firms).

One discipline rule. The paper sims run until Jay says stop, and every attempt runs to a complete verdict — passed both phases or failed a rule — never abandoned mid-attempt, never re-ruled mid-flight. The same discipline applies to real challenges later: the rules on this page are the rules, in winning months and in losing ones.
